Catholic Schools Week 2027
17th – 23rd January 2027
INVITES
Encounter, Belonging, Purpose
Opening hearts and minds to life in Christ
Purpose of the theme
Catholic schools in Ireland begin with an invitation: an invitation into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, into a friendship with God who is love, and into a community where young people are accompanied in their search for meaning and purpose. This invitation is lived through relationships, dialogue, reflection, and the ordinary rhythm of prayer, liturgy, and the sacraments.
Catholic schools are grounded in an invitation — an invitation into a deeper encounter with Christ, with one another, and with the wider human family. This calling is both personal and communal, shaping educational relationships with dignity, respect, and openness. Catholic education proposes the Gospel; it does not impose it. It seeks authentic dialogue grounded in truth and love, inviting all students and families — of every faith and worldview — into a shared journey of learning, encounter, and service.
In an increasingly plural society, this invitation simultaneously fosters courageous dialogue and respectful encounter with other worldviews, beliefs, and cultures. Catholic schools treasure the deep unity of the human family, honoring the sincere search for truth wherever it is found while witnessing the Gospel in word and deed. This participation in respectful dialogue forms students who are confident in their own identity and open to the perspectives of others, preparing them to engage ethically and empathetically in a diverse world.
