In this interview with Wendy Grace for The Way, CEP Chief Executive Alan Hynes-Cendrzak discusses Catholic ethos, parental choice and the place of faith-based education within a pluralist Irish education system. The conversation addresses current debates on divestment, the idea of ethos-neutral education, the constitutional and human rights foundations of parental choice and the need to respect parents who continue to seek a Catholic education for their children. Alan argues that genuine pluralism is not achieved by weakening the distinctive character of Catholic schools, but by ensuring that families have meaningful access to schools that reflect their convictions, values and hopes for their children.
